Historic Ethnologic Anthropological Museum

It is placed on S. Michele street and it is "unico nel suo genere" (unique) because it gives to visitors the possibility to appreciate, on two floors, popular culture and local history.

History of the museum

In 1984, in the town hall, was opened an exhibition on rural society, that became permanent after being enriched as time passed.
The today’s museum has been opened to the public on 4th August 2001.
It is placed in the Savoca’s historical centre; it consists of two floors and includes an external area. The municipal auditorium is annexed to the museum, and it is used, besides for conferences and cultural meetings, for the didactic activities of the museum.

There are represented some cycles of the rural world (like bread-making, measures, the woodman, the spinning-mill etc.). The finds and the tools, exposed on wooden containers, are followed by the respective technical cards. On containers’ edges are written in Sicilian dialect some proverbs and popular verses about the local oral culture.
You can listen some tales and local songs, that were used to sing during the rural works and in the night of S. John, recorded many years ago in the surroundings of Savoca. The proverbs have been collected in a book by the administrator of the museum, Santo Lombardo.

It is told the local history, from the late Middle Age, through the creation of particular settings and the exposure of precious manuscripts, portraits, costumes, maps, and coats of arms. A section is dedicated to Savoca ‘s noble families.
There are also the histories of the school and of the writing.
